Lao Ambassador Presents Credentials to Austrian President in Vienna

Vienna: Mr. Khampheng Douangthongla presented his credentials to Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, officially assuming his role as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Austria.

According to Lao News Agency, during the ceremony, Ambassador Khampheng Douangthongla conveyed greetings and best wishes from President Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos, expressing gratitude for the welcome he received. He emphasized his commitment to strengthening the relations and cooperation between Laos and Austria.

Ambassador Douangthongla extended thanks on behalf of the Lao government to Austria for its ongoing support and assistance. President Van der Bellen welcomed the ambassador, congratulated him on his appointment, and expressed confidence in his ability to enhance bilateral cooperation.

Diplomatic relations between Laos and Austria began on September 1, 1967. This year marks their 58th anniversary. The Lao PDR established its Embassy in Vienna in 2010, w
hile Austria maintains its diplomatic presence in Laos through its mission in Bangkok, Thailand.

The two nations have strengthened their cooperation through high-level official exchanges, mutual support in international forums, and collaboration in areas such as economy, trade, health, education, energy, agriculture, forestry, infrastructure, and transport.
