Vientiane: The weather bureau of Laos has issued a warning to the public, particularly those residing near riverbanks, to stay alert due to the risk of widespread flooding. This caution comes amidst forecasts of heavy rain, occasional strong winds, and rising water levels.
According to Nam News Network, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the river level in Khammuan province has reached 13.75 metres. This figure is perilously close to the warning level of 14 metres, with the danger threshold set at 15 metres. The weather bureau anticipates that the river will reach the warning level in the coming days, necessitating increased vigilance.
Moreover, the weather bureau has cautioned the public about the potential for heavy rain that could lead to flooding and landslides across various regions of the country. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and prepare for possible evacuations if necessary.
