Leaders of Vietnamese and Lao Legislatures Hold Strategic Talks in Geneva

Geneva: Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man on July 30 received Vice President of the Lao NA Sounthone Xayachack on the sidelines of the sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament (WCSP 6) in Geneva, Switzerland. Chairman Man extended his warm greetings to Lao NA President Saysomphone Phomvihane and other high-ranking leaders of the Lao Party and State, while also relaying regards from key Vietnamese leaders to their Lao counterparts.

According to Lao News Agency, Chairman Man congratulated Laos on its socio-economic achievements in the first half of the year and praised the strengthening cooperation between the two countries’ legislatures. This includes joint efforts in implementing various agreements and programs that contribute to the deepening of the Vietnam-Laos relationship in a stable and sustainable manner. He also expressed sympathy for those affected by Typhoon Wipha in Laos, hoping for a swift recovery.

Vice President Sounthone expressed gratitude towards Vietnam for its ongoing support and solidarity. She emphasized the importance of the special relationship between the two nations and congratulated Vietnam on its administrative reforms and achievements. Sounthone also provided updates on Laos’s central-level reforms.

The leaders agreed to promote joint activities in 2025, including preparations for an upcoming visit by the Lao Party General Secretary and President to Vietnam, coinciding with significant national anniversaries. They also committed to enhancing parliamentary cooperation and accelerating the compilation of a commemorative book marking 50 years of ties between the two National Assemblies.
