Lee to Hold Second Meeting of Emergency Economic Task Force to Discuss Additional Budget

Seoul: President Lee Jae-myung will convene the second meeting of the emergency economic task force on Monday, as announced by his office on Sunday. The meeting is anticipated to focus on discussions around an additional supplementary budget aimed at boosting the local economy.

According to Lao News Agency, President Lee will lead the session alongside presidential aides, relevant authorities, and working-level officials. The agenda is expected to cover economic stimulus measures and details concerning the second supplementary budget. This follows the first task force meeting chaired by Lee on his first day in office last week, where he was briefed on the local economy’s status and the potential impact of an extra budget.

During his election campaign, President Lee committed to introducing an additional extra budget of at least 30 trillion won (approximately US$22.1 billion) to revitalize the ailing economy. With the National Assembly having approved a 13.8 trillion-won extra budget bill last month, the forthcoming budget is anticipated to be no less than 20 trillion won.

Rep. Jin Sung-joon, the policy chair of the ruling Democratic Party, indicated in a recent radio interview that the party is contemplating a supplementary budget worth between 20 and 21 trillion won. He noted that 14 trillion won in spending, from an initial proposal of 35 trillion won, was already approved in the first supplementary budget.
