Nicaragua to Launch Yellow Fever Vaccination Drive

Managua: The Nicaraguan Ministry of Health (MINSA) is set to initiate a yellow fever vaccination campaign, planning to administer approximately 200,000 doses of the vaccine. This campaign aims to combat the disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, with immunizations scheduled for each municipality based on a planned timetable, as stated by MINSA.

According to Lao News Agency, the vaccination drive will prioritize workers at border crossings, tourist spots, international heavy transport drivers, healthcare workers, and forest rangers from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Additionally, personnel from the Nicaraguan Army, the National Police, and the Ministry of the Interior will receive vaccinations to ensure the safety of those in strategic roles within security, tourism, and environmental protection sectors.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Health secured 200,000 doses of yellow fever vaccines from Russia. These vaccines were produced by the M.P. Chumakov Federal Research and Development Center of Immunobiological Preparations of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In April, MINSA announced a series of measures to enhance epidemiological surveillance nationwide and at entry points, in response to a rise in yellow fever cases in South America.
