Over 4.7 Million Voters Registered for Upcoming General Elections in Laos

Vientiane: Over 4.7 million Lao citizens are set to participate in the upcoming general elections for the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Provincial People's Councils, as announced by the National Election Committee. This significant voter turnout reflects the active engagement and democratic participation of the Lao population in the nation's political process.

According to Lao News Agency, the National Election Committee confirmed that a total of 4,764,384 individuals have registered to vote. Among them, 2,384,104 are female voters, demonstrating the inclusive nature of the electoral process. Additionally, the data includes 23,378 overseas voters, with 7,828 being women, highlighting the global engagement of Lao citizens in shaping their country's future.

The elections, set for 22 February 2026, mark a pivotal moment in Laos's political landscape. Mr. Chaleun Yiapaoher, Vice President of the National Assembly and Spokesperson for the National Election Committee, shared these statistics in a press conference on 12 February 2026, aiming to raise public awareness both domestically and internationally. Mr. Yiapaoher emphasized the importance of this electoral event as an exercise of democratic rights, allowing Lao citizens to act as the true masters of their nation.
