Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed additional personnel and resources to Cebu province to ensure the swift distribution of relief goods to residents affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake on Sept. 30.
According to Philippines News Agency, acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized that efforts will focus on the severely impacted northern areas of the province. He noted, “The quick response and continuous hard work of our personnel on the ground not only paved the way for government assistance reaching more affected communities, especially in the northern part of Cebu, but also resulted in the gradual restoration of normalcy in the entire province.”
The PNP is working in close coordination with the Cebu provincial government and local disaster response teams to enhance the efficiency of relief distribution to the more remote communities. Police officers are actively involved in logistics, road clearing, security, and traffic management to prioritize the transport of essential relief items.
Nartatez also mentioned that several mobility assets, including high-speed watercraft from the Maritime Group, have been dispatched to reach isolated areas, ensuring that aid reaches even the most inaccessible locations.
