Vice President Attends Wreath-Laying Ceremony for Late Queen Mother of Thailand

Bangkok: Mrs Pany Yathotou, Vice President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, honored the late Queen Mother of Thailand by attending a wreath-laying ceremony at the Dusit Maha Prasat Palace within the Grand Palace in Bangkok on 5 November 2025. She represented President Thongloun Sisoulith in paying respects following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother of Thailand, who died on 24 October 2025 at the age of 93.

According to Lao News Agency, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit was born on 12 August 1932 and married His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (Rama IX) on 28 April 1950. Together, they had four children. Throughout her life, the Queen Mother supported King Bhumibol in numerous royal development projects aimed at improving the well-being of the Thai people and fostering sustainable national progress.

Her Majesty played a vital role in promoting friendship and cooperation between Thailand and neighboring countries, including Laos. She accompanied King Rama IX on official visits both domestically and abroad, including the inauguration of the First Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge linking Vientiane and Nong Khai. Her visit to Laos, at the invitation of former President Nouhak Phoumsavanh, further strengthened the enduring bonds between the two nations.

The participation of Vice President Pany Yathotou at the ceremony was a gesture of the Lao Government’s and people’s deepest condolences to the Thai Royal Family, the Government, and the people of Thailand. It also honored the Queen Mother’s lifelong dedication to public service and her significant contributions to strengthening relations between Laos and Thailand.

During the visit, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, representing His Majesty King Rama X, graciously received Mrs Pany Yathotou and held a meeting with her at the Grand Palace.
