Vietnamese Ambassador Highlights Historic Ties and Economic Growth on National Day

Sabaidee: On the 80th Anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos expressed sentiments of camaraderie and solidarity to the people of Laos. The ambassador reflected on the historic call by President Ho Chi Minh that led to the nation’s independence, marking the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

According to Lao News Agency, Vietnam has seen substantial economic growth since the implementation of the Doi Moi (Renovation) policy. The country has maintained an average growth rate of nearly 7% per year, ranking 32nd globally with a GDP of $476 billion in 2024. Despite global challenges, Vietnam achieved a growth rate of 7.52% in the first half of 2025, maintaining macroeconomic stability and controlling inflation.

The ambassador emphasized Vietnam’s ongoing commitment to innovation and administrative reform, highlighting the restructuring of local government apparatus as a significant step toward efficient governance. Vietnam’s economic achievements have been recognized by international organizations, positioning it as a middle-income developing country.

The ambassador also recognized the vital support and cooperation from international allies, particularly Laos. Vietnam’s trade and investment ties with Laos have strengthened, with bilateral trade exceeding $2 billion in the first seven months of 2025. The inauguration of a new wharf at Vung Ang International Port is expected to enhance trade connectivity for Laos.

Education, cultural exchange, and environmental cooperation between Vietnam and Laos continue to progress. Notably, the recognition of Hin Namno National Park as a transboundary world natural heritage site with Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park underscores the enduring partnership between the nations.

The ambassador reiterated Vietnam’s dedication to strengthening its relationship with Laos, emphasizing the shared responsibility to uphold their historic ties. The strategic alliance between Vietnam and Laos serves as a foundation for future development, with both nations committed to promoting peace and cooperation in the region.

The ambassador concluded with wishes for continued success for Laos under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, expressing hope for the everlasting friendship and collaboration between the two countries.
