Vietnam’s 80th National Day Celebrated in Laos

Vientiane: The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos hosted a reception in Vientiane on August 22 to celebrate the 80th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, marking the historic declaration of independence by President Ho Chi Minh on September 2, 1945. The event saw the participation of Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and her Lao counterpart Pany Yathotou, along with various leaders from the Lao Party, State, National Assembly, Government, and mass organizations. Members of the Vietnamese community and foreign guests also attended the celebration.

According to Lao News Agency, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam addressed the gathering, reflecting on the nation’s journey over the past eight decades. He emphasized the significant progress made under the Communist Party of Vietnam’s leadership, which led to historic victories in national liberation and reunification efforts. The ambassador highlighted Vietnam’s comprehensive renewal process, which has resulted in significant socio-economic development, strengthened national defense and security, and expanded international relations.

Tam further noted Vietnam’s transformation from a war-torn nation into a leading economy in ASEAN, attracting investors, tourists, and international partners. He praised Vietnam’s active participation in regional and global cooperation mechanisms, contributing to peace, stability, and sustainable development.

The ambassador also acknowledged the enduring special solidarity and bonds between Vietnam and Laos, describing them as a vital strength for the Vietnamese revolution. He expressed gratitude for the support from the Lao people and international friends throughout Vietnam’s history.

The event concluded with Vice President Xuan, her Lao counterpart Pany Yathotou, and other delegates cutting a cake to celebrate Vietnam’s National Day. Attendees enjoyed cultural performances that included lyrical songs celebrating national pride and the strong friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
