Vientiane: Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone of the Lao PDR hosted a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at the Prime Minister's Office in Vientiane on February 5, 2026. The meeting was part of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Laos, accompanying To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, on his state visit to the Lao PDR.
According to Lao News Agency, the discussions between the two Prime Ministers highlighted significant achievements in national defense, security, and socio-economic development by both countries. They acknowledged the successful outcomes of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The meeting involved a review of bilateral cooperation and strategic directions for the future. Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of cooperation in politics, foreign affairs, national defense, and public security, which remains a cornerstone of the Laos-Vietnam special relationship.
During the talks, the completion and operational success of several strategic infrastructure projects were noted. Discussions also covered measures to enhance economic connectivity, with agreements to expedite key projects like the Lao-Vietnam Railway and the Vientiane-Hanoi Expressway.
The two sides committed to bolstering cooperation in areas such as energy, mining, education, culture, digital transformation, trade, and investment. Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone emphasized the meeting's significance in preserving the great friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam. He expressed gratitude for Vietnam's consistent support for Laos.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reiterated Vietnam's commitment to effectively implementing agreements with Laos, aiming to provide practical benefits for both nations' peoples.
