Vientiane: A training workshop on election campaigning guidelines for candidates of the 10th National Assembly (NA) representing Constituency 1 (Vientiane Capital) and the 5th Vientiane People's Council (VC) was held on February 4, 2026, in Vientiane. The event was led by Chaleun Yiapaoher, Vice President of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Member of the National Election Committee, and Deputy Head of the Sub-committee for Campaigning and Public Mobilisation. The workshop gathered candidates for both the National Assembly and the Vientiane People's Council, alongside relevant officials.
According to Lao News Agency, the workshop's purpose was to enhance candidates' understanding of election campaigning and voter education. It aimed to promote patriotism and the exercise of democratic rights among various groups including Party members, civil servants, armed forces personnel, students, entrepreneurs, and people of all ethnic backgrounds. Chaleun Yiapaoher emphasized the importance of encouraging voters to actively and voluntarily exercise their right to vote in strict accordance with the law and election regulations.
During the session, participants received briefings on key legal and operational issues related to the electoral process. Topics included provisions of the Law on the National Assembly and Provincial People's Councils, and the roles, rights, and duties of the National Assembly and Provincial or City People's Councils.
The workshop further addressed guidelines on the official campaign period, procedures for meeting constituents, the significance of gender representation and the role of women in the National Assembly. It also covered practical considerations and responsibilities for candidates during the campaign and in their future roles as elected representatives.
According to the meeting, 25 candidates are contesting seats in the 10th National Assembly for Constituency 1 in Vientiane Capital. For the 5th Vientiane People's Council, there are seven candidates in each of the capital's nine districts.
