Vietnam’s 80th National Day Celebrated in Vientiane with Emphasis on Historical Ties

Vientiane: A solemn ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day was held in Vientiane, Laos, attended by notable dignitaries including Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam and Lao Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Thongloi Silivong. The event drew a large assembly of officers, soldiers, and representatives from both countries.

According to Lao News Agency, Ambassador Tam highlighted the significance of the August Revolution of 1945 and the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He emphasized the revolution's role as a pivotal moment in the nation's history, heralding a new era of independence and freedom for the Vietnamese people. The Declaration of Independence by President Ho Chi Minh not only marked the birth of a new nation but also underscored human and national rights on the global stage.

Ambassador Tam reflected on Vietnam's achievements over the past 80 years, particularly following the 'Doi Moi' (Renewal) process. He stressed the importance of the August Revolution's values in shaping the nation's current development and defense strategies. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Vietnamese Party, people, and armed forces, as well as the support from international allies, notably the Lao Party, State, and people.

The ambassador also highlighted the enduring relationship between Vietnam and Laos, underscoring the countries' great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation. He proposed further collaboration between their respective Parties, States, and citizens across various sectors.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Silivong, representing the Lao Party, State, army, and people, expressed gratitude for Vietnam's support in Laos' past and present endeavors. He affirmed that the enduring friendship and solidarity between the two nations are invaluable, contributing significantly to their revolutionary successes and serving as a cherished legacy for future generations.

The celebration also featured a photo exhibition commemorating Vietnam's National Day, showcasing images and documents that capture Vietnam's revolutionary history and the strong Vietnam-Laos relationship. The exhibition aims to inspire pride and reinforce the commitment to preserving the lasting friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
